Sarah grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where she spent many weekends with animals at her grandparents’ dairy farm located outside of the city. In the country she helped take care of her young quarter-horse Bree, assisted in herding and milking cows, and played in hay bales with the barn cats and the family Beagles Snooper and Brandy.

Sarah + Frankie & JohnnieWhen she was five years old her family adopted two Russian Blue kittens. To young ears their claws sounded like rain as they ran through the house - it was only fitting to name them Pitter and Patter. The cats became incredible friends to Sarah and her sister, developing numerous quirky habits that still make the whole family laugh.

At 14 she began to campaign for a puppy. Wanted-Posters were taped throughout the house describing the ideal candidate: large, cuddly, and and energetic were necessary traits. After months of persistence her father finally caved-in and they found Toby, the last remaining puppy in a litter of yellow Labrador Retrievers. Through diligent training Sarah equipped him with a handful of party-pleasing tricks: “get-your-tail”, “bow-to-me”, “happy-talk” and “eat-everything-in-sight” (a built-in talent). Toby additionally became a fabulous running companion as she trained for the cross-country team in high school .

Through college and early living in New York City Sarah was sadly forced to remain pet-free until she had space and time to care responsibly for pets again. She subsisted in regular updates and pictures from her family at home. In her available time she began pet-sitting and walking for local friends in order to get her “furry fix”.

Johnnie learns to “sit”

Eventually the urge to have a pet again at home was too strong to resist. She and her husband Sam became the proud pet-parents of a Yorkshire Terrier named Frankie (since the first Broadway play they saw together was “Frankie & Johnnie”). Frankie arrived packed with a punchy personality, and they quickly realized that it would be difficult to manage caring for and training a small puppy while putting in long hours at work. Thankfully Sarah was fortunate to work at a pet-friendly company that allowed their little dog to spend numerous days cuddled on her lap growing.

Over the next two years it became clear that Frankie was ready for her counterpart Johnnie (….and Sarah really wanted another dog). On Christmas soon after she was surprised by her in-laws to find a spunky little Norfolk Terrier hiding upstairs. It was Johnnie!!

As Frankie and Johnnie began to require more time and training, an exciting possibility slowly unfolded: she could spend personal AND professional time with animals. Cosmopolitan Pets was officially born!! She began to build on her existing personal pet-handling credentials by taking Pet First Aid classes, reading obedience and training literature, and volunteering with local animal shelters. Her pet-family has since grown to include many adorable furry “clients” and Sarah couldn’t be happier. Each dog and cat she has had the pleasure of spending time with has taught her their own individual (and invaluable) lesson about loving pet care.
